The Eight Lots School House
This was an article that was very fun to write because its about my hometown and one of it's most important "landmarks".

The Eight Lots School House is one of the oldest one room school houses still standing in the vast country of the United States.
The Eight Lots School House in Sutton, Massachusetts is one of the most important landmarks in our small town. “My opinion is that its extremely important because its one of the oldest one room school houses that still exists in our country,” said Mrs. (Joanne) Geneva, the Sutton Middle/High School librarian. Even though we are a small town, we still have a great deal of history that goes along with it. We went from being a small “eight miles square” that provided the first English settlers with fertile soil and plenty of water sources to a striving farm town with rich history.
The Eight Lots School House was built in Sutton, Massachusetts (circa) 1785-1790 on land given to the town in 1784. Before this time, children were taught in the privacy of their own homes by parents or neighbors. Classes were in session and available to the students until 1895. Although the school closed for a while, classes started up again in 1911 and went until 1918. After classes were no longer held in the school house, former pupils came together to form the Eight Lots School Association that was meant to maintain the school as a community facility in 1920. On July 2, 1990, the property was unable to be maintained and taken care of, so the land was deeded to the historical society.
This school house is a very important landmark because of its educational value. We can learn so much about what education was like just by researching and visiting this one school house. We could find out what the set up of the classrooms used to look like and what school life was like for the students. “Its important because we can learn a lot about the history of education from places like the Eight Lots School House,” said Mrs. (Joanne) Geneva.
Since, this school house is so extremely important, the community officials have done some great things to maintain the school house’s exterior and interior (as well as make sure it is securing and standing). The school still retains its original exterior appearance because it has not had any major renovations/changes in its entire existence. The first interior changes were made in 1853, but these were very minor. During the fall of 1990, the gable ends were repaired, the roof was re-shingled, and the entire building was painted. It is important to maintain such an important landmark because it is a tribute to our past and a connection to our future improvements of our educational systems.

Fashion and the Grammy Awards
This was another one of my favorite articles to write because it is about something I'm really interested in; fashion. I have always loved drawing new designs for clothes and when I found out I could do an article on something like the fashion at the Grammy awards, let's just say I was very excited!

The Grammys isn’t just a night of talent and stars; it is also a night of fashion trends and beauty.
During the interviews at the Grammys the interviewers aren’t always only looking for the answers to their questions, they are also looking at the current fashion trends being sported by the stars. Some people who are more into fashion even remember the fashion trends more than they remember the information given by the celebrities. So, as you can see the way a celebrity dresses can make an impact on the people’s overall opinion of them.
These fashion trends are what most of the year in the fashion world revolves around for the year since the Grammys are so early in the year (February). They set trends for people who are heavier or people who are skinnier and everything in between (such as certain body shapes ex: hourglass figured dresses). This is what some prom dress manufacturers take inspiration from in order to have a more successful year. Websites such as the celebritydresses.com specialize in the sale of celebrity dresses that were worn at events such as the Grammys. They have every celebrity (women)’s dresses from Rihanna to Beyonce to Taylor Swift to Selena Gomez. So, sometimes it seems like the way a certain celebrity dresses and the trend really sets the bar for many prom dress manufacturers and designers because the trend may be an aspect that someone may love but another person may really dislike.
Another example of the importance of the fashion trends that are set at the Grammys is that there are websites dedicated to the outfits of certain celebrities that were at the awards this past February. They have separate articles giving information such as which celebrity wore the dress, who is the manufacturer of the garment, how much does the dress that she wore differ from the past fashion trends set, and much more. This may be a very good source for inspiration for fashion designers to take ideas from that may make them much more successful than they already are. If hundreds of reporters and writers throughout the whole country write this type of article, it will definitely make an impact on the fashion world!
Another aspect of the fashion trends that are set at the Grammys that I found to be interesting is that there was a set dress code. CBS did not allow sheer costumes that may show too much skin or leotard style dresses or outfits because they would be too inappropriate for the younger viewers. This was a very good idea to send out that memo because the younger viewers (16 and under) could get the wrong idea as to how to dress and it could have influenced the future prom dress selection and expectations of our youth. The younger views could find themselves into a lot of trouble if they were to follow the restricted type of clothing that would have been found on the red carpet if CBS did not put a stop to it. It was an extremely smart action by CBS to ban the appearance of leotard style dresses and extremely sheer dresses due to the level of inappropriateness that those dresses could potentially have.

The Iditarod and it's Sled Dogs
This was one of the articles that I wrote in my VHS Class that I really felt the most strong and sure of myself about. It really made my want to make this article the very best it could ever be and have all of the information to be as good as I could possibly make it.

Have you ever truly thought about what happens to sled dogs that pull sleds in the Iditarod? The truth is an ugly one.
According to helpsleddogs.org in 2012, 47% of all the dogs that participating in the Iditarod did not cross the finish line because of many health related reasons. Those health related reasons include sickness, exhaustion, and sometimes even broken bones. 81% of all dogs had some kind of lung damage after participating in the race. A lot of people don’t think twice about these health concerns because they think that the dog racer has several other dogs they can participate with in their future races. In most cases, the dog racer has several other potential dogs that could race with them, but do those people ever think about the dog’s health and how this could affect the rest of their life? No. These dogs are shortening their life each time they race in a race such as the Iditarod because each time they race they are ruining some part of their health (whether it be broken bones or lung damage).
These dogs obviously need to be trained before big races, but did you ever think that the training would also be taxing on their health? According to helpsleddogs.org, training alone causes significant gastrointestinal damage such as developing stomach ulcers (after racing only 100 miles) that could easily kill the dog. Some mushers (dog sled racers) bring their dog in to race not even knowing that the dog has some sort of health related concern. This really worsens the already body taxing race for these dogs with coming into the race with a sickness their owner didn’t even know about.
Some people say that the Iditarod is a good experience for both the musher and their dog. They say it is tons of fun for the musher and for the dog because they say it is a dog’s dream to be able to run their little hearts out. It is a dog’s dream to run their hearts out but I don’t think they would ever think of that dream coming true when the dreadful wind is blowing in their and their health not even become of concern to their apparently great owner. These people don’t seem to know that these dogs’ owners are risking their dog’s life for some race they most likely will never win because of the excessive amount of participants in the race.
Long story short, do not train or race your dogs in sled races because it is risking their life.
